How Related Records work in NetSuite

4apps group, 25 October 2022

We already discussed how to make data migration effective and efficient, because it can be a struggle for many organisations. But there is also some good news – there are lots of powerful and valuable features and functionality included in NetSuite as well. One that we’d particularly like to highlight is the Related Records function.

The Related Records function refers to the ability of the NetSuite package to create relations between different record transactions within the package. And NetSuite makes it possible for users to view those relations.

Dealing with Invoices

The importance of this, and even the advantages of the functionality, might not be immediately obvious. So here’s an example. Imagine that you send an invoice to a customer for €100, and the customer makes a payment of €90. You could then create a credit memo related to this transaction for the outstanding €10, and then both the payment and memo would then be viewable via a sub-tab in NetSuite.

This can be very helpful when cross-referencing information, as there is no requirement for you to look within different menu structures, or access various screens. Instead, all of these records are accessible at once.

Generally speaking, we really believe that customers should make use of this Related Records functionality in NetSuite, as it makes it much easier to drill down into the details of a particular case or project. It offers a transparent, joined-up, and cohesive way of collating and accessing information.

Improving Client Relations with Related Records

Utilising Related Records can help you to build better relationships with clients and vendors, as it makes it easier for you to build systems that are populated with detailed, nuanced, and easily accessible information. This can then assist you in dealing with questions from clients, and other queries. NetSuite also makes it user-friendly, as you only require the document number associated with the record to access all information.

In summary, Related Records is an element of functionality within NetSuite that is frequently overlooked. When we work with clients, Related Records are often something that they haven’t particularly considered, or perhaps they won’t even know that the function exists. Yet it is one that can save you a lot of time and effort, and potentially even money, so we always recommend utilising this functionality to its fullest.
